Ratty, the Muskrat Sailor

by Nancy Sojka

For 8 years, my husband Ted and I were part of the LaCrosse Sailing Club’s Daysailer Muskrat Fleet. We raced against as many as 18 boats on Lake Onalaska (by the LaCrosse Airport) each Tuesday evening for six weeks each summer. The Muskrat Fleet needed a mascot, so the fleet asked me, a former art teacher, to draw something up. I came up with Ratty at the tiller, wearing his life vest and sun hat. DOTF gave me the opportunity to create the 3-d version.
